With the new year one of my goals is a healthier me. I know, everyone makes resolutions like this. But your health plays such a critical role in your day to day life, influencing not only your physical condition but also your emotional and mental well-being. Finding small routines that have a proven track record is my goal this year. One of those is getting back into the ice bath.
Ice baths have a pretty solid record of health benefits. Both physically and mentally, they are a real game changer. The exposure to cold water can be quite a shock but ultimately leads to numerous advantages for the body and mind. Then again, I did not want to invest a ton of money into something “I didn’t want to do”, if you know what I mean. I live in an area that gets pretty cold in the winter, which makes it convenient to have this routine incorporated into my lifestyle.

I actually bought this for my husband last Christmas, and we committed to using it pretty consistently until the weather got warm. This simple pop up cold bath was also easy on the budget. It sets up in minutes and is still large enough to fit my 6′ foot 3″ husband. It also folds down and slides under my patio furniture during the summer when we put it away.
During the coldest months, we mostly relied on the ambient cold weather to keep the water at optimal temperatures. There were a few occasions where we added giant ice cubes from the freezer to bring the temperature down on particularly warm days. We did buy a floating temperature gauge so we could keep track of how cold the water really was. While it is not something we engage in during the warmer seasons, we have set it back up again to reap the benefits this winter.
Top 5 Benefits of Ice Baths
- Reduced Muscle Soreness: Ice baths help reduce muscle soreness after intense workouts by minimizing inflammation and aiding in recovery.
- Improved Circulation: Cold exposure stimulates blood flow as your body tries to maintain its core temperature, leading to better circulation overall.
- Enhanced Mood: The shock of cold water can release endorphins, providing a natural boost to your mood and alleviating symptoms of anxiety and stress.
- Stronger Immune Response: Regular exposure to cold may enhance your body’s immune functions, making you more resilient against illness.
- Increased Mental Resilience: Practicing ice baths can improve your tolerance for discomfort, helping you develop a stronger mindset and better coping strategies for life’s challenges.
Incorporating ice baths into your routine can be a rewarding practice that not only supports physical health but also shapes a stronger mental fortitude to tackle whatever life throws your way. As we embrace the winter season, I look forward to leveraging this practice for my overall well-being.
